A Palestinian refugee residing in Canada has sparked outrage online after posting a profanity-laced video criticizing “white people” for putting up Halloween decorations in her Montreal neighborhood.
Samar “Summer” Alkhdour, who has often voiced strong pro-Palestine opinions on social media, drew widespread condemnation after sharing a video questioning the country’s holiday traditions. In the clip, now circulating across multiple platforms, Alkhdour can be heard saying, “I just want to ask, is this okay? Is this how holidays look like?” Her remarks were prompted by a nearby home’s Halloween setup featuring severed plastic body parts — including fake limbs and a bloodied head — commonly used as spooky decor during the season.
While Alkhdour appeared disturbed by what she viewed as a macabre display, her reaction quickly escalated into a broader tirade against “white people” and “Westerners.” According to users who reshared the video on X (formerly Twitter), Alkhdour allegedly said, “F—k you white people” and “F—k you Westerners.” The comments ignited a fierce backlash from Canadians and social media users worldwide, many of whom accused her of disrespecting the nation that offered her refuge.
“Samar Alkhdour is a Palestinian refugee living in Montreal who recently brought her entire family from Gaza. Now she’s attacking Canadians because of Halloween decorations,” one user wrote while reposting the clip. Another critic remarked, “People who come to Canada seeking safety should at least respect the country that took them in.”
Several others echoed similar sentiments, suggesting that while cultural differences are understandable, open hostility toward Canadian traditions reflects “contempt for the values that made that refuge possible.” One comment that gained traction bluntly read, “Great news — she can go home!”
Unfazed by the backlash, Alkhdour later took to her Instagram stories to share screenshots of the flood of angry messages she received following her outburst. Instead of offering an apology or clarification, she appeared to double down on her position, framing the criticism as targeted harassment.
The controversy has reignited debates over cultural assimilation, freedom of expression, and respect for host-country traditions among immigrants and refugees. While some defended Alkhdour’s right to express discomfort with certain cultural practices, others argued that her tone and language crossed a line — undermining the very principles of tolerance and coexistence she may wish to uphold.
As discussions continue to unfold online, the incident stands as another flashpoint in the ongoing tension between cultural sensitivity and the expectation of gratitude toward host nations — especially in countries like Canada that pride themselves on diversity and inclusivity.
