PM Modi's call for unity as he launches the 9th P20 Summit

On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the 9th G20 Parliamentary Speakers' Summit (P20) in New Delhi. The Parliament is hosting the event within the broader scope of India's G20 Presidency. During his address, Modi referred to it as the global epicentre of parliamentary practices, emphasising the significance of parliaments as crucial forums for discussion and deliberation. He also commended India's recent lunar achievement and the successful conclusion of the G20 summit.

Additionally, he stressed that the ongoing conflicts and confrontations in the world are detrimental to all parties involved. Notably, these comments were made amidst the Israel-Palestine conflict, which has resulted in a considerable loss of life in both regions, exceeding 2,800 casualties. The P20 Summit is currently attended by Speakers of Parliaments from G20 member countries and select invitees.


Under the theme 'Parliaments for One Earth, One Family, One Future,' representatives from Indonesia, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Spain, the European Parliament, Italy, South Africa, Russia, Turkey, Nigeria, Australia, Brazil, the UAE, Singapore, Japan, Egypt, and Bangladesh were present at the event. According to the Prime Minister's office, the P20 Summit will concentrate on four main topics: Enhancing Lives through Public Digital Platforms, Empowering Women's Development, Expediting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and Facilitating Sustainable Energy Transition.
