Prime Minister Narendra Modi is making preparations for his upcoming trip to Washington DC, set to begin on June 21. During this visit, significant attention is expected to be given to various defense agreements that are currently pending between India and the United States. The main focus of these discussions revolves around the co-production of defense equipment. India's objective is to bolster its self-reliance and indigenous defense production capabilities by promoting local manufacturing and facilitating technology transfer. As both countries aim to deepen their defense cooperation, these agreements and collaborative production initiatives not only have the potential to strengthen their bilateral ties, but also contribute to regional security and stability.

One specific topic being discussed is the procurement of MQ-9B Predator Drones. Sources suggest that the United States is keen on achieving clarity regarding this deal during Prime Minister Modi's visit. According to reports by Financial Express Online, these discussions have reached an advanced stage, and now a decision needs to be made regarding the number of drones required by the Indian Armed Forces. Initially, the requirement was for 30 drones, but last year, during a press conference, Indian Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar hinted at the need to rationalize the numbers. It was previously reported that both the Indian Army and Air Force have expressed their interest in acquiring these drones.
