PM Modi urges BJP MPs to observe Rakshabandhan with Muslim women

During a recent gathering with BJP-led NDA MPs from West Bengal, Odisha, and Jharkhand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stressed that the government's decision to outlaw triple talaq has significantly enhanced the sense of security for Muslim women. He urged BJP leaders to actively engage and support Muslim women, especially during the upcoming festival of Raksha Bandhan, as the alliance prepares for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

During the meeting, some MPs highlighted how PM Modi emphasized the importance of connecting with all sections of society and mentioned the government's move to criminalize the practice of instant divorce among Muslim men, which has been a great relief for Muslim women. In light of this, the prime minister encouraged them to organize events during Raksha Bandhan to reach out to women from the minority community.

Raksha Bandhan, a celebration of the bond between siblings, falls on August 30 this year. In 2019, Parliament passed the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, rendering the practice of instant triple talaq illegal and punishable with jail time for the husband.

PM Modi has consistently highlighted the government's measures aimed at empowering Muslim women. In his recent 'Mann ki Baat' address, he commended the transformation that allowed over 4,000 Muslim women to perform Hajj without a 'mahram' and expressed that more people were benefiting from the changes his government made in the Haj policy over the years.

Additionally, PM Modi pointed out that the opposition parties are attempting to unite under a new name, INDIA (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance), as the previous UPA was tainted by a series of scandals. He expressed confidence that the people would not accept this rebranding, considering the past misgovernance and corruption associated with the alliance.

During the ongoing Monsoon session of Parliament, the BJP has arranged separate meetings with NDA MPs grouped regionally. In these meetings, PM Modi has encouraged the MPs to spread a positive message about the government's work and spend more time engaging with the public.

In conclusion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi underlined the positive impact of banning triple talaq on Muslim women's security and urged BJP leaders to support them during Raksha Bandhan and beyond. He also emphasized the need to connect with all sections of society and countered the opposition's attempts at rebranding by highlighting their past misgovernance and corruption.
