PM Modi urges discussions on global food security during the ongoing G-20 Agriculture Ministers con.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a video message to the G20 Agriculture Ministers Meeting in Hyderabad, emphasized the numerous challenges faced by the agriculture sector worldwide. He urged the ministers to engage in collective action to achieve global food security. Mr. Modi highlighted that climate change is leading to increasingly frequent extreme weather events, disproportionately affecting the global South. He stated that agriculture is a vital source of livelihood for more than 2.5 billion people globally, contributing nearly 30% to the GDP and employing over 60% of the workforce in the global South.

The Prime Minister also noted that the pandemic-induced disruptions in the supply chain have been compounded by geopolitical tensions. Furthermore, he outlined India's policy approach, which combines traditional farming practices with technological advancements, promoting both natural farming and technology-enabled agriculture. Mr. Modi mentioned that farmers across the country are embracing natural farming techniques that eschew synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, focusing on revitalizing the environment.
