A man has been apprehended for making threatening calls to the Mumbai Police Control Room, falsely claiming affiliation with the notorious Dawood Ibrahim gang, as reported by the police on Tuesday. The detained individual asserted that he had been instructed by the Dawood gang to plan an assassination plot targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
The caller also issued threats against JJ Hospital, a prominent medical institution in Mumbai, according to law enforcement. The case has been filed under Section 505 (2) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which addresses statements fostering enmity, hatred, or ill-will among various religious, racial, linguistic, regional groups, or castes. The police statement reads, "A man has been arrested for placing threatening calls to the Mumbai Police Control Room in the name of the Dawood Ibrahim gang. The individual claimed that the gang instructed him to plot against PM Modi and UP CM Yogi Adityanath. The caller also threatened JJ Hospital. Case registered under section 505 (2) of the IPC."

In October, Mumbai Police received an email threatening to detonate Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the stadium named after him in Ahmedabad if the Indian government did not pay ₹500 crore and release notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. The email, originating from Europe, was initially sent to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), which then alerted the Mumbai police.
Earlier in August, the Kerala police arrested a man who allegedly wrote a threatening letter about a suicide attack on Prime Minister Modi during his visit to the state. However, it was later revealed that the accused wrote the letter to falsely implicate his estranged friend and neighbor.
