On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in a dialogue with the recipients of the National Teachers' Award 2023 in Delhi. Also in attendance at the event were Union Minister for Education and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of State for Electronics & Information Technology and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Rajeev Chandrasekhar, and several others.
As per an official announcement by the Union Ministry of Education, President Droupadi Murmu will bestow the National Teachers' Award 2023 upon 75 chosen awardees on September 5, 2023, at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. Each award comprises a certificate of excellence, a monetary prize of ₹50,000, and a silver medal. The awardees will also have the opportunity to engage with the Prime Minister, as stated in the announcement.

The Department of School Education and Literacy, under the Ministry of Education, has been hosting a national-level event on Teachers Day each year to recognize the most outstanding teachers in the country, following a rigorous and transparent selection process. This year, the scope of the National Teachers' Award has been extended to encompass educators from the Department of Higher Education and the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship. The accolades will be conferred upon 50 School Teachers, 13 teachers from Higher Education, and 12 teachers from the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.
Every year, September 5th is celebrated as Teacher's Day, a day dedicated to appreciating the pivotal role teachers play in shaping the lives of their students. This date coincides with the birth anniversary of the distinguished scholar and Bharat Ratna recipient, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who was born on September 5, 1888.
Dr. Radhakrishnan served as the first Vice President of independent India (1952-1962) and subsequently as the second President of India from 1962 to 1967. The National Teachers' Award aims to commemorate and honor the unique contributions of teachers in the country, particularly those who, through their unwavering commitment and dedication, have not only enhanced the quality of education but also enriched the lives of their students.
