Prime Minister Modi has officially announced India's aspiration to host the 2036 Olympics

On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi affirmed that India would submit a bid to host the 2036 Olympics. During the commencement of the 141st International Olympic Committee (IOC) session at the Jio World Centre in Mumbai, PM Modi disclosed this intention. He also expressed India's willingness to host the Youth Olympics in 2029. After a gap of approximately 40 years, India is hosting the IOC session for the second time, with the previous session taking place in New Delhi in 1983.

During his earlier address, IOC president Thomas Bach extended greetings to the assembly with a 'namaste' and welcomed the Indian PM by stating, 'aapka bahut-bahut swagat hai' (we welcome you), acknowledging India's economic and sports advancements. Notably, during a press conference on Friday, Bach had confirmed the inclusion of cricket in the 2028 Olympics, citing its increasing global popularity. He also commended the ongoing successful Cricket World Cup being held in India. Prime Minister Modi praised the IOC's decision and expressed gratitude for incorporating cricket, one of India's most beloved sports, in the Olympics.
