Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister has announced an "international alliance" to advocate for Palestinian statehood during the United Nations General Assembly, state media reported on Friday.

Prince Faisal bin Farhan stated that the "International Alliance to Implement the Two-State Solution" involves Arab and Islamic countries as well as European partners, according to the Saudi Press Agency, which did not provide further specifics.

The recent Gaza conflict has reignited discussions about a "two-state solution," where Israeli and Palestinian states coexist peacefully. However, analysts suggest that this objective seems increasingly out of reach.

The Israeli government, led by hard-right Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, remains firmly opposed to Palestinian statehood.

Saudi Arabia, the world's largest oil exporter and custodian of Islam's two holiest sites, suspended US-brokered negotiations on recognizing Israel after the Gaza conflict erupted between Hamas militants and Israel.

Earlier this month, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the kingdom's de facto leader, intensified his stance, explicitly stating that an "independent Palestinian state" is a prerequisite for normalization with Israel.

An official from the Saudi-based Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) informed AFP that the new coalition "mainly includes Islamic and Arab OIC members, along with several European countries."
