NAIROBI, Kenya (Morning Star News)– A Somali convert from Islam, previously attacked in May and July, was again assaulted on October 5th after his Muslim relatives suspected him of leading Christian prayer meetings, according to his account.
Mohammad Abdul was holding a worship service behind locked doors at his home in an undisclosed town in the Lower Juba region when four Muslim relatives arrived and waited for him to finish. Upon stepping outside, Abdul was surprised to see them, and they immediately began interrogating him without exchanging any greetings, he said.
“They asked me, ‘Why are you worshipping in a manner different from Islam? What’s so special about your way of worship? Why do you lock yourself in when praying?’” Abdul recounted.
He responded, “My prayers are personal, between me and my Lord Isa [Jesus]. Besides, why should I pray publicly? That’s just to gain approval from men. My worship is meant to please God alone, who resides in the heavens.”
When his relatives insisted he rejoin them for Islamic worship, Abdul told them he had embraced Christianity and that Christ was now his Lord and Savior. “Isa saved me and knows my heart. I have peace in my heart, so just leave me in peace,” he said.
Suddenly, one of his relatives attacked him, another struck him with a blunt object, and a third slapped his face. Abdul suffered a fracture in his left hand, injuries to the fingers on his right hand, and cuts to his face.
“You’re bringing great trouble upon yourself and your family,” one relative warned. Abdul responded, “You can beat me more if you like, but I tell you, Isa has saved me. Whether I live or die, I will serve Him.”
As they left him bleeding, Abdul recalled that one relative, to his surprise, said, “Since you love God, may He guide you to the right path.”
