Around 200 schools across Andalusia, a Spanish autonomous community, now include Islam in their curriculum, according to official data released in response to a parliamentary inquiry by the local Vox party.

Vox linked these findings to demographic statistics from the Infancy and Adolescence Observatory in Andalusia, published in November 2024, which showed that Moroccans constitute the largest group of non-Spanish nationals under 19 in the region, representing nearly 30% of foreign nationals in this age group.

In Almería alone, this percentage exceeds 50%, making Moroccan nationals the dominant foreign-born group in a province significantly affected by illegal immigration.

Vox criticized the Andalusian People’s Party (PP) government for withholding the names of schools where Islam or Islamic studies are being taught.

“The data confirms that Andalusia has succumbed to the ongoing influx of immigrants from the Maghreb, a predominantly Muslim region with a high number of practitioners,” the party stated.

“The presence and expansion of this subject in Andalusian classrooms clearly reflect the priorities of the current Andalusian popular government,” it added.
