Spanish authorities have arrested 11 Pakistani nationals suspected of being affiliated with the banned terrorist group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
According to Spanish media, the arrests took place in Barcelona during a coordinated operation involving the National Police, Mossos d’Esquadra, and Italy’s Polizia di Stato. The suspects are accused of links to a Pakistan-based terrorist network that encouraged violent acts, including murders and beheadings, through encrypted communication channels.
Investigations suggest the group, allegedly associated with TTP—also referred to as the "Pakistani Taliban"—functioned with a hierarchical structure. They reportedly used instant messaging platforms to radicalize followers and identify potential targets across Europe.
The Spanish National Police confirmed that this investigation is part of the third phase of an ongoing operation, which has led to 30 arrests in Spain over the past three years. Ten of the recent detainees were arrested in Barcelona and its surrounding areas, while one was taken into custody in Italy.
Additionally, media reports indicate that one of the communication channels was run exclusively by women, who were not only involved in spreading extremist ideology but also played a role in selecting potential victims.
