Two Greek Orthodox Christians from Wadi al-Nasara (Valley of the Christians) were murdered in their home in what was initially reported as a “burglary.”

Samaan Satme and Helena Khashouf, residents of al-Jamasliyye village in Syria’s Homs province, were brutally killed. Further details revealed that Samaan was beheaded and Helena was shot, suggesting motives beyond a simple burglary.

The murders occurred on December 13, with their funeral procession taking place the next day at the Church of Saint Simeon Stylites in Haba.

Local reports indicate that similar “random murders” have become increasingly common in Homs and coastal regions, often following a pattern where perpetrators enter homes and kill the occupants.

Meanwhile, a video circulating on social media features a Lebanese Christian woman in Syria recounting how her brother and mother, living in Latakia, were attacked by neighbors. The attackers reportedly told them: “You’re Christians, leave the house, we don’t want you here!”

These events unfolded against the backdrop of Turkish-backed jihadist forces launching an offensive in northern Syria on November 27. By the end of the month, they had captured Aleppo, Syria’s largest city and commercial hub. The rebels continued advancing south, seizing Hama and Homs. During this time, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was in Moscow. Damascus ultimately fell to the rebels on December 8.
