The Taliban’s Eid message, delivered by its supreme leader Hibatullah Akhundzada, centered heavily on preserving the group’s rule and reinforcing strict adherence to Sharia law as the foundation of Afghanistan’s future. Addressing citizens as “faithful and mujahid brothers” and “honorable Afghan brothers,” Akhundzada portrayed the continuation of the Taliban’s Islamic system as a collective duty that requires further sacrifice and endurance from the Afghan people.

In the message, Akhundzada urged citizens to remain united against what he described as the “malicious intentions of enemies” and emphasized obedience to religious decrees without hesitation. According to him, following Sharia law is the key to prosperity, stability, and success. He further claimed that under Taliban governance, the Islamic rights of all citizens are protected and that injustice and oppression are being prevented through the implementation of Islamic principles.

Notably, the statement made no mention of women, girls, or the ongoing international criticism regarding restrictions on their education, employment, and public participation. Instead, the message focused largely on strengthening Taliban rule, promoting religious discipline, and encouraging support for the Taliban’s interpretation of Islamic governance.

The Eid address also highlighted the role of the Taliban’s Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, with Akhundzada stating that efforts to reform Afghan society according to Islamic teachings would continue. He called on religious scholars to encourage prayer, strengthen religious values among the public, and reinforce commitment to Islamic practices. Taliban officials were also instructed to avoid mistreating citizens and to carry out their responsibilities in accordance with Islamic law.

On foreign relations, Akhundzada briefly noted that the Taliban administration seeks political and economic ties with all countries, particularly Muslim nations, provided such relationships are based on Islamic principles.
