KABUL, Afghanistan — Taliban supreme leader Hibatullah Akhundzada has once again emphasized the need for unwavering obedience to his authority and the strict enforcement of the group’s interpretation of Islamic law across Afghanistan. His message, released on Monday ahead of the upcoming Eid al-Fitr, underscores the leadership’s continued focus on consolidating control and reinforcing religious governance.
In his statement, Akhundzada declared that following his directives, laws, and decrees is “obligatory” for all Afghans and Muslims. He urged citizens to maintain the same level of loyalty they had previously demonstrated, stressing that obedience to leadership is a religious duty rooted in the teachings of the Quran.
The Taliban chief also directed government institutions—especially those overseeing religious matters—to step up their efforts in promoting what he described as “righteousness.” He called for stronger guidance to ensure that citizens adhere fully to the Sharia system as interpreted by the Taliban administration.
Additionally, Akhundzada commended the role of the morality police, highlighting their efforts in curbing corruption and maintaining social discipline. He further encouraged collaboration between the public and religious scholars to address moral concerns, guide the younger generation, and ensure the consistent implementation of Islamic law throughout the country.
