A shocking crime has shaken Nashville after a woman lost her life shortly following a brutal assault outside a local church. Authorities allege that Mohamed Mohamed, 39, raped the woman multiple times while she was in a vulnerable state, drifting in and out of consciousness, on the steps of a church located along Nolensville Pike in the Woodbine neighborhood. The disturbing incident occurred on the evening of August 14.
According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, Mohamed now faces four counts of rape. Investigators revealed that the victim, whose identity remains undisclosed and is referred to only as Jane Doe, appeared to be heavily under the influence. Surveillance footage captured her struggling to walk, stumbling unsteadily before lowering herself onto the church steps. As she attempted to rest, Mohamed reportedly approached her, sat beside her, and began making unwanted physical contact. Despite the woman’s weak attempts to push him away, her fading consciousness left her unable to defend herself.
Authorities say the situation escalated when Mohamed lifted the woman off the steps, placed her on the ground, and proceeded to assault her repeatedly. The shocking scene was interrupted when a Nashville Fire Department crew, traveling along Nolensville Pike just after 9:30 p.m., noticed suspicious activity. They reported seeing Mohamed trying to pull up the woman’s pants, prompting them to stop and intervene.
The woman was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center immediately after the assault. Tragically, despite medical intervention, she was pronounced dead shortly after her arrival.
The incident has drawn widespread outrage, not only because of the brutality of the crime but also because it unfolded in front of a house of worship — a place many consider sacred and safe. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the woman’s condition prior to the assault, as well as Mohamed’s actions leading up to the attack.
