Air-raid sirens sounded across the greater Tel Aviv area on Monday afternoon after Iranian-backed Houthi militants launched a missile toward Israel from Yemen, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed.

"Following alerts in central Israel, a missile launched from Yemeni territory was intercepted and destroyed before entering Israeli airspace," the IDF stated.

The sirens were triggered to alert civilians of potential falling missile fragments after the interception, according to the military.

The Magen David Adom emergency response organization reported treating five individuals who sustained minor injuries while seeking shelter during the attack. All were transported to a hospital for further care, MDA noted.

Earlier on Monday, an Israeli Navy vessel intercepted a drone launched by the Houthis over the Red Sea.
