Dr. Taj Hargey, from the Oxford Institute for British Islam, has stated on GB News that imams are still actively supporting grooming rings. His comments come 11 years after he first raised concerns about the links between race, religion, and grooming rings in Britain.

Hargey, the founder of the group, made a series of shocking claims during an interview with Martin Daubney, emphasizing that his previous warnings have been ignored despite growing calls for a national inquiry into grooming gangs.

After a series of grooming incidents in Oxford involving Muslim men targeting underage white girls, Hargey told the Daily Mail in 2013 that the sex ring activities were “bound up with religion and race,” as all the men, though from different nationalities, were Muslim. He explained that they “deliberately targeted vulnerable white girls, whom they saw as ‘easy meat,’ to use one of their revealing, racist terms.”

In a recent interview, Hargey was asked by Daubney if imams are encouraging this attitude. His response was “absolutely.” He added, “There’s a perpetuation of ‘them and us.’”

He explained that the teachings from mosques and elders continue to promote the “us versus them” mentality, and the criminal activity is fueled by an ideology of Islamic fundamentalism, which has no basis in the Qur’an. According to Hargey, some radical Muslims believe that if the Prophet Muhammad can marry a nine-year-old, there’s nothing wrong with them sleeping with a 12-year-old, even though this narrative is false.

Hargey further suggested that this ideology allows these men to dehumanize young girls, making them view them as inferior and thus justifying their actions. He criticized this interpretation of Islam, which he believes is making these actions possible.

Hargey also raised the question of why a vast majority—around 95 percent—of individuals in grooming gangs are Muslim, pointing out that while Islam itself does not promote this behavior, it is crucial to examine the relationship between Islamic teachings, the clergy, and the establishment in the UK.
