The Modi government in India updates the country's name to "Bharat" on the G20 dinner invitation

The Modi government has changed the name of India and used Bharat on the G20 dinner invitation. The government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has altered the name on dinner invitations for this week's G20 summit guests, substituting the word "India" with a Sanskrit term. This has led to conjecture about a potential official name change for the country, as the invitation now addresses Droupadi Murmu as the "President of Bharat" rather than the "President of India."

The Modi government wanted to change all the colonial rules that were imposed before independence. The country with a population exceeding 1.4 billion is recognized by two official names, India and Bharat, with the former being the predominant and widely accepted term both within the country and on a global scale. In literature and various facets of popular culture, the term Hindustan is frequently employed as an alternate reference for the nation.

Bharat, an age-old Sanskrit term, is widely thought by historians to have its origins in early Hindu scriptures. Additionally, it serves as a Hindi synonym for the nation of India. In 2015, the well-known Aurangzeb Road in New Delhi, which had been named after a Mughal emperor, was renamed as Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Road due to objections raised by leaders from Modi's political party following protests. But this will create a topic of discussion among the opposition.

Oppositions will now make controversial comments on this. But changing the name of the country on an international level is a matter of pride. We should appreciate Modiji for doing such things on an international level and making the citizens proud.
