Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have charged three men in connection with a series of child sexual offences, including multiple counts of rape and sexual assault, allegedly committed more than a decade ago. The charges stem from incidents reported to have taken place between 2008 and 2009, involving a single victim who was a minor at the time.
According to GMP, Naveed Anwar, aged 41, has been accused of raping a girl aged between 13 and 15, as well as raping a woman aged 16 or over. Similarly, Mohammed Abdul-Sami, 44, faces identical charges of rape involving a girl aged 13 to 15 and rape of a woman aged 16 or above. Both men have been granted bail and are expected to appear before Manchester & Salford Magistrates’ Court on 19 March next year.
In addition, Dilwar Ali, aged 45, has been charged with two counts of raping a girl aged 13 to 15 and one count of assault by penetration. Like the other two accused, he is also a resident of Rochdale.
Police have confirmed that the case is part of a wider investigation into historical sexual abuse in the region, reflecting ongoing efforts to deliver justice for survivors of grooming and exploitation. Rochdale has been at the centre of several high-profile grooming gang investigations in recent years, prompting national concern and extensive police scrutiny.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police reiterated the force’s commitment to pursuing historical abuse cases, regardless of how long ago the alleged offences occurred. They urged anyone with information about similar incidents to come forward, assuring victims of full support and confidentiality throughout the investigation process.
The three men will face trial proceedings in the coming months, as law enforcement continues its drive to ensure accountability for crimes that have left deep scars on victims and the community.
