Toronto police are investigating after a Jewish girls' elementary school in North York was shot at for the third time this year.
The latest shooting at Bais Chaya Mushka Girls Elementary School occurred shortly after 2:30 a.m. on Friday, according to Supt. Paul MacIntyre.
Security footage shows a vehicle pulling up to the school, a passenger exiting, and firing at the building before re-entering the car and fleeing the scene. MacIntyre confirmed that the school was empty at the time, and no injuries were reported.
Investigators believe six shots were fired, and responding officers discovered bullet holes in the school’s front facade, MacIntyre stated.
“It is deeply unfortunate that I am here today discussing yet another shooting at Bais Chaya Mushka Girls Elementary School,” MacIntyre told reporters at the scene.
“With just days to go before the start of Hanukkah, this is profoundly disturbing to the Jewish community,” he added.
The Toronto police's gun and gang task force is leading the investigation, with support from the hate crime unit.
A command post has been established outside the school, and an officer will be stationed there around the clock.
York Regional Police have also been alerted about the shooting and are increasing patrols at schools, community centers, and faith-based institutions in the area to ensure public safety, according to a post on X on Friday.
The same school was targeted by gunfire in October, during the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur, and in May.
