Turkey's attempt to mediate in the Israel-Hamas conflict faces backlash because it hosts Hamas heads

Turkey is reportedly under scrutiny for its offer to mediate the Israel crisis, mainly due to its prior hosting of senior Hamas members. However, there are additional reasons why Turkey should be disqualified from any role in mediating. In 2019, it was revealed that Turkey allowed senior Hamas operatives to plan attacks against Israel from Istanbul. In mid-August 2020, Turkey was accused of granting citizenship to Hamas members planning terrorist attacks, though Turkey denied these allegations.

Shortly after that, Turkish President Erdogan hosted a significant Hamas delegation, including wanted terrorists who had murdered Israelis. In 2022, Turkey refused Israel's request to expel Hamas, as it didn't consider the group a terrorist organization. Erdogan has also described Israel's actions against Hamas in Gaza as a "massacre," though it was Hamas that carried out the massacre, while Israel contends it's defending its right to exist. Given these factors and Turkey's support for the Muslim Brotherhood, which Hamas is affiliated with, it is not suitable for involvement in negotiations concerning the Israel-Hamas conflict. It's worth noting that Turkey has been expanding its influence in the United States, as evidenced by its recent purchase of a multimillion-dollar building in Washington.
