Uganda: Evangelist killed by Muslims after refusing to convert to Islam alongside another Christian

NAIROBI, Kenya (Morning Star News) – A group of Muslim extremists in eastern Uganda killed an evangelist on October 30 after he and another Christian refused to convert to Islam, according to the surviving Christian.

The incident occurred during a six-day evangelistic event at Nawaikoke trading center in Kaliro District, where 18 Muslims had reportedly embraced Christianity. After the third day of the event, Emmanuel Dikusooka, a 29-year-old father of three, and his fellow church member, Jack Mbulante, were attacked around 6:30 p.m. while returning to their hotel in Kaliro town, Mbulante recounted.

The two were confronted by six Muslim youths near Lumbuye Bridge. Armed with long Somali swords (pangas), sticks, and iron bars, and dressed in traditional Islamic attire, the assailants stopped their rented motorcycle and demanded their bags, which contained Bibles and Christian literature. The attackers threw the contents into the River Lumbuye and handed them a Quran, ordering them to swear allegiance to Allah and renounce their Christian faith.

“They ordered us to recite and swear in the name of Allah,” Mbulante told Morning Star News. “When we refused to abandon our faith in Jesus Christ, they became enraged. One of them struck Dikusooka on the head with an iron bar, causing him to collapse.”

Mbulante managed to escape by jumping into the river and swimming to safety. He sought help from other Christians to rescue Dikusooka, but by the time they returned, Dikusooka was found dead in a pool of blood with severe head injuries, neck and back wounds, and a disfigured mouth.

Dikusooka is survived by his wife and three children, ages 9, 6, and 4.

The incident has been reported to police, who are searching for the attackers. Some of the Muslims who recently converted to Christianity, led by Dikusooka, are said to know the assailants and fear for their safety. They are currently in hiding at an undisclosed location.
