Ugandan Christian Attacked by His Sons After Converting from Islam

A 52-year-old man from eastern Uganda is recovering from serious injuries after allegedly being assaulted by his five Muslim sons for embracing Christianity, according to local sources and eyewitness accounts.

The incident took place in Nakalama village in Iganga Town Council after Kibirige Abumusa returned home on August 9 following an extended stay in Jinja City. During his time in Jinja, Abumusa attended a three-day open-air evangelistic crusade led by Pastor Zakalia Sserwada of Evangel Church, where he accepted the Christian faith on June 1. He later underwent discipleship at True Worship Centre Church before returning to his village.

According to a business colleague who introduced him to the church, Abumusa’s conversion became known to Imam Kisige Musitafa of a mosque he had previously attended. The imam reportedly informed Abumusa’s eldest son, 28-year-old Kibirige Budallah, about his father’s decision to leave Islam.

Upon Abumusa’s return, Budallah confronted him, accusing him of abandoning Islam and calling him a kafir, or infidel. Witness Alice Naigaga said the confrontation quickly turned violent, with Budallah striking his father with a stick before four of his brothers joined in the assault.

Naigaga, who witnessed the attack from a distance, photographed the incident and alerted neighbors for help. By the time residents intervened, Abumusa was bleeding from the nose and had sustained injuries to his hands, legs, and back. He was reportedly left weak and unable to defend himself.

The eyewitness also stated that Budallah invoked religious teachings about apostasy during the attack, claiming that killing Muslims who abandon Islam would earn divine reward. Authorities have not yet released an official statement on the case, and Abumusa continues to recover from his injuries.
