UK: Convicted Rapist Told Woman She Should ‘Submit to a Man’s Wishes’

A former Hollyoaks actor has been handed an 11-year prison sentence after being found guilty of raping two women, including one attack carried out while the victim was asleep. The actor, 40-year-old Rizwan Khan, faced a series of disturbing allegations that revealed a pattern of violence, coercion and predatory behaviour.

Alongside the rape convictions, Khan was also sentenced for causing unnecessary suffering to a child, after he was found to have slapped a child across the face, and for sexually assaulting one of the women he later raped. These charges collectively painted a grim picture of his conduct behind closed doors.

During the trial at Teesside Crown Court, prosecutors detailed how Khan repeatedly tried to force himself on one of his victims, who had made it clear she did not want to have sex with him. Ignoring her refusals, Khan reportedly told her, “I need what I need. I want what I want. You, as a woman, should abide by what a man wants.” Moments later, he proceeded to rape her.

The woman later told police that she had said “no” several times, but eventually stopped resisting because she feared Khan would become even more violent if she continued to refuse. After he forced himself on her, she managed to kick him away. The court was told that Khan retaliated by strangling her against a wall, though she eventually managed to break free and escape from the house.

The prosecution explained that this was not an isolated incident. Khan had punched, slapped, and physically intimidated the same woman on multiple occasions, and his behaviour toward both victims was characterised by aggression and control. His second victim described waking up to find Khan sexually assaulting her—an experience the court heard had left her traumatised.

Throughout the proceedings, Khan denied all allegations. However, after a trial in August, he was convicted of raping two women, sexually assaulting one of them, and committing child cruelty. He was acquitted of four additional rape charges. The judge sentenced him to 11 years and nine months in prison.

As sentencing took place, Khan remained emotionless while the prosecutor read victim impact statements. One woman described her ongoing anxiety, nightmares, and the psychological weight of the abuse. “What he did goes round and round in my head,” she wrote, adding that seeing his face in news reports made her feel physically sick.

Before his criminal acts came to light, Khan had accumulated several acting credits. He appeared in Hollyoaks in 2019 as Doctor Peak, and again in 2020 in a separate role as a paramedic. His screen career also included parts in Everybody’s Talking About Jamie (2021), This is England, Holby City, and two episodes of the ITV crime drama Vera.
