An Islamist extremist employed at one of London’s most renowned hospitals has been suspended following allegations that he issued a fatwa-style death threat over blasphemy.

The Mail on Sunday has learned that Omar Abdallah Mansuur, 39, a prominent imam working for the NHS, is accused of declaring that a fellow Muslim should be sentenced to death for insulting the Prophet Mohammed.

His message, broadcast to tens of thousands of followers, is believed to be the first instance in the UK of a cleric openly making such a threat.

The terrified individual targeted by Mansuur is now in hiding somewhere in Europe and has been warned by police that returning to the UK is too dangerous. “It’s a living nightmare,” he said last night. “My life is at risk, and I’m constantly looking over my shoulder.”

However, Mansuur denied issuing a death threat, claiming he was only stating the Islamic punishment prescribed for blasphemy.

Some of Mansuur’s provocative videos were filmed inside St Thomas’ Hospital — located just across the River Thames from the Houses of Parliament — where he works in procurement.

Colleagues describe Mansuur, a British citizen of Somali descent who lives in North London with his wife and children, as polite and unassuming. Yet his social media presence tells a very different story.

Through TikTok, Facebook, and X, he reaches millions with hateful videos and live streams.

After The Mail on Sunday shared its findings, the hospital confirmed on Friday that Mansuur had been suspended pending an investigation.

In one broadcast, he targeted a 32-year-old moderate imam, accusing him of making disrespectful comments about the Prophet and saying: “When he repents, he will be put to death like Muslims are killed. If he refuses to repent, he will be caught, killed, then thrown into a pit like a dog.”

The man threatened strongly denies insulting Islam, insisting his social media comments were doctored. The Metropolitan Police said they referred his complaint to the authorities in the country where he is currently hiding.

The threatened individual told the police he fears suffering the same fate as French teacher Samuel Paty, who was murdered in 2020 after being accused of showing a Prophet cartoon to his students.

He said: “Mr Mansuur has issued a fatwa against me, declaring that my punishment for insulting the Prophet is death. My life is at risk, and I fear for my safety.”

In other videos, Mansuur defends child marriages, claiming that girls as young as 11 may be married off by their parents without consent, provided they are virgins.

One can only imagine the surprise of the Daily Mail’s editors when they realize Mansuur’s views on child marriage reflect mainstream Islamic positions, rather than “extremist” ones.
