A member of the infamous Rochdale grooming gang, responsible for impregnating a 13-year-old girl, has been permanently banned from returning to Britain after fleeing the country.
Adil Khan, 55, whose crimes shocked the nation, spent over a decade exploiting human rights laws to block efforts to deport him to his native Pakistan. In a chilling display of arrogance, Khan even argued that he should remain in the UK because he was a “role model” for his teenage son—a claim widely condemned as grotesque and offensive.
Khan, alongside fellow abuser Abdul Rauf, went so far as to renounce his Pakistani citizenship in a deliberate attempt to avoid deportation, defying successive Home Secretaries and running up an eye-watering £550,000 in taxpayer-funded legal costs.
Authorities have now confirmed that, rather than being deported, Khan has absconded abroad, and police are urgently trying to locate him. Despite his escape, a long-overdue victory has been achieved for his victims: he will not be allowed to return to Britain.
Rochdale MP Paul Waugh, who has campaigned tirelessly for both Khan and Rauf to be removed from the country, welcomed the news, saying: “It is extremely welcome that this vile paedophile is no longer in the UK. His victims—and many of my constituents in Rochdale—will want reassurance that he is gone for good. The public will naturally want to know more about his current whereabouts, but I have been assured by the Home Office that he will never be allowed to set foot in the country again.”
Waugh added, “Since being elected, I have worked relentlessly to secure the deportation of Adil Khan and Abdul Rauf to Pakistan. Khan may be gone, but Rauf still remains, and he too must be removed.”
