A man has been imprisoned for terrorism offences after shipping advanced rifle components abroad to support Taliban fighters in Afghanistan.

Muhammad Choudhary, 41, from east London, received a seven-year sentence at the Old Bailey on Tuesday, after pleading guilty to the charges.

The case followed a collaborative investigation by His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) and the Metropolitan Police’s counter-terrorism command.

The court was told that Choudhary had sent thermal imaging night vision rifle scopes to Pakistan multiple times in 2017 and 2018.

In January 2018, officers intercepted rifle scopes at Heathrow Airport, destined for an address in Pakistan.

Choudhary was identified as the sender and admitted during an HMRC interview that he had purchased sniper sights in the UK, fully aware they were intended for Taliban members.
