Ukrainian War Veteran Allegedly Stabbed to Death by 15-Year-Old Son in Germany

A tragic family incident in Dortmund, Germany, has left a community in shock after a 49-year-old Ukrainian war veteran was allegedly killed by his 15-year-old son inside their apartment. The teenager has been arrested and placed in pre-trial detention as police continue to investigate the motive behind the fatal attack.

Alexander Z. had previously served in Ukraine’s defense against Russia’s invasion before relocating with his family to Dortmund in North Rhine-Westphalia. According to investigators, he was resting on the couch when he was allegedly attacked with a knife by his teenage son.

Emergency responders rushed to the apartment after receiving a call placed by the boy himself. Despite efforts to save him, Alexander Z. died at the scene after suffering two stab wounds that reportedly pierced his lung and heart.

The case has drawn further attention after investigative sources indicated that the teenager had converted to Islam about a year before the incident. Authorities are examining whether possible radicalization played any role in the alleged crime, although police have emphasized that no motive has been confirmed.

Friends reportedly told investigators that the boy owned a Quran, prayed daily, and regularly attended a mosque. At the same time, neighbors have described the family as largely reclusive and claimed that frequent arguments could be heard from the apartment, with some alleging incidents of domestic violence.

One resident recalled hearing the father’s screams on the day of the attack before the apartment suddenly fell silent. Police are now investigating whether the killing stemmed from a domestic dispute, possible extremist influence, or another as-yet-undetermined cause.

The teenager is being represented by defense lawyer Ali Mojab, who stated that the exact circumstances of the incident must first be established. He also said investigators will examine whether the boy’s decision to call emergency services could have legal significance under German law.
