Matt Lucas has received widespread praise on social media for remaining calm and composed after being confronted by a pro-Palestinian activist on the London Underground. The 51-year-old British comedian was reportedly followed and filmed by Thomas Abdullah Bourne, a Muslim convert who operates online under the handle “White British Muslim.”
The video begins with Lucas riding an escalator inside a Tube station, dressed in a black jacket, red jumper, and white cap. Upon noticing that he was being recorded, the comedian attempted to shield his face with his hand, seemingly trying to avoid unwanted attention. As the escalator reached the top, Bourne repeatedly called out “Free Palestine” while addressing Lucas by name. Despite the unexpected situation, the star of Little Britain responded politely, greeting the activist with a simple, “Hi, how are you?”
The activist then questioned Lucas about his reaction to his clothing, referring to the black-and-white keffiyeh scarf often associated with Palestinian solidarity movements. Choosing not to engage in any political discussion, Lucas calmly replied that he had no comment either way. When asked directly whether he had a problem with Palestinians, he responded with a brief “No,” before attempting to move the camera away from his face to create distance.
As Lucas walked off without further confrontation, the activist objected to the physical gesture and later muttered “Zionist” toward the camera. The exact reason Lucas was singled out remains unclear, though many online observers speculated that the encounter may have been motivated by his Jewish background rather than any public political stance.
