A shooting inside a classroom at Old Dominion University on Thursday morning left one person dead and two others injured.
According to a statement released by the university, the gunman was also found dead.
The incident occurred shortly before 10:45 a.m. in a classroom in Constant Hall, which houses the university’s College of Business. Garrett Shelton, chief of the ODU Police Department, confirmed the details of the shooting.
University police, along with officers from the Norfolk Police Department and other emergency responders, arrived at the scene within minutes, the university said.
Two individuals who were critically injured were transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment, according to hospital spokesperson Dale Gauding.
Shelton added during a Thursday afternoon news conference that another person later went to a hospital in Virginia Beach for medical care on their own.
